Big Concert Weekends in San Diego: What to Do Around the Show

San Diego's stadium calendar is stacked. The headline weekends:

  • Niteharts Festival — Friday, October 9 through Sunday, October 11, 2026, at Snapdragon Stadium (2101 Stadium Way). Three days of EDM, the biggest remaining 2026 driver in the city.

  • Temper Festival — Wednesday, December 30, 2026, at Petco Park stadium bowl, a NYE-week EDM crowd.

(Note: these are the stadium-bowl shows — Petco Park also hosts smaller concerts at Gallagher Square, a separate ~7–8k venue on the ballpark grounds. Check your ticket to confirm which one you're attending.)

Stadium shows mean one big night (or three, for the festivals) and a lot of free hours around it. Here's how to use them.

The day of the show: keep it light

Sunset cruise on San Diego Bay. For evening shows, an afternoon or sunset bay cruise is the perfect pre-show — you're relaxed, the views are unbeatable, and you're back on land in time to get to the venue.

Crystal-clear kayak tour. A morning paddle before an evening show is the ideal concert-day rhythm: active early, rest midday, full energy for the night.

The day after: recover on the water

Whale watching (seasonal). A slow morning on the water is the best cure for a loud night. Whale watching tours run seasonally — December (Temper) is gray whale season; May (Metallica) can catch the tail end; check what's running for your weekend.

Half-day sportfishing charter. Morning boats, back by midday, nap in the afternoon. The classic post-concert recovery — especially if you stayed through the weekend.

Practical tips for concert weekends

  • Snapdragon Stadium is in Mission Valley; Petco Park is downtown. They're different trips — plan lodging and transport around your specific venue. The trolley serves both areas.
  • Stadium shows sell out. So do nearby hotels and the best tour timeslots — book experiences when you buy tickets, not the week of the show.
  • December shows (Temper, holiday concerts): evenings are cool. Bring a real jacket, not just a hoodie.
  • October (Niteharts) and May/June (Metallica, Luke Combs): marine layer mornings are common — they burn off by midday. Afternoon water activities are the safer bet.
  • Designate your rideshare plan before the show. Surge pricing after a stadium lets out is no joke.
